The vacuumator has the unique ability to gather nearby materials laying on the ground directly into the storage wagons on the train. It cannot collect unmined resources. Also, if there's no space in storage wagons for a specific kind of resources, that kind of resources will not be vacuumed. The wagon must be fueled with wood that will slowly deplete after a short period.

Note that vacuumators might have a negative effect when you're trying to solve "Stack N commodities on a single pile" mission, since it will just "help" you pick them up.
