General
The milk wagon can be used to milk certain animals in each biome.
The player has to carry an animal to the wagon and attach it to the wagon. Most Animals follow the train slightly but will not keep up and detach from the wagon, Lava Blobs and Camels are the only animals capable of keeping up with a train at a higher speed (+0.400 m/s) as Camels are attracted to the tank wagon. See table below for more detailed information about animals following speed.
Once the Milk Wagon fills itself, players can dash into it to drink some milk, buffing the player with specific benefits for 17 seconds.
You can upgrade the Milk Wagon twice in Endless, up to six times in Time mode, allowing for an increase of +2 milk capacity for each level upgraded. This makes it so that multiple players can get the milk buff before having to wait again for the Milk Wagon to fill up.
Strategy
It takes 20 seconds per animal to produce a charge. Supercharging reduces that time, which helps with producing more charges in less time. In fact, each supercharger allows each animal to create one extra charge in 20 seconds as shown in the table below in Stats.
If the Ghost Wagon affects the Milk Wagon, any animals attached to it also receive the ghost effect which allows players and creatures to move through them. Ghost Wagon is very useful with Milk Wagon in biomes or difficulties where there are bottlenecks, otherwise you take the risk that the animals will detach there.
Milking different animals at the same time will give multiple benefits. As long as 1 charge is left in the wagon cart, the power of the milk from all animals is retained.
Effects and Following Speed
| Animal | Biome | Milk Buff | + Bucket Buff | Following speed (m/s) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cow | Plains | Triples chopping and mining speed; 1-hit breaking. | Harvest resources with any tool. | 0.160 |
| Camel | Desert | Quadruples player carry capacity (12 Commodities). | Octuples player carry capacity (24 Commodities). | 0.500 |
| Walrus | Snow | Melts snow beneath the player. | - | 0.160 |
| Blowfish | Underwater | Provides infinite oxygen to the player. | - | 0.280 |
| Lava Blob | Lava | Ghost power; Players can walk through each other. | - | 1.300 |
Note that the animal following speed doesn't reflect the speed showed on the speedometer.
The practical following speed will be usually slower since blocks, wagons, other creatures or players walking into them will make them slow down; though using loops or less straight lines will help animals keep up with a higher speed.
One-tile path or bottlenecks tends to detach them more easily or even kill them if there are too many animals on the same tile. Ghost Wagon can help prevent this (see above).
Unlike other animals who are always following, Cows and Walrus take a break once in a while and so could detach during that time.
The Walrus effect to melt snow or space dust isn't as efficient as walking with the filled Water bucket since you can get stuck a little while moving in snow, i.e. you move slower than your normal walking speed, unlike with the Water bucket.

Note that the supercharger wagon doesn't increase the level of the milk wagon, unlike for other wagons. So the number of charges can't be increased that way. Though as shown above, superchargers increase the milking speed. You can still increase milk wagon level past level 3 up to level 8 in Time mode using boxes, though you won't see how many charges there are in the wagon if there are more than six. (The wagon will appear empty.)
